April 3rd, 2019 – “Racking Regulation: Year One In Review” Breakfast Meeting

On Wednesday April 3rd, 2019 the CMHDS presented – “WorkSafeBC’s Storage Rack Regulation: Year One In Review”.

This breakfast meeting was an  opportunity to hear from WorkSafeBC, a Professional Racking Engineer and a Racking Industry Representative about the first year of WorkSafeBC’s Storage Rack Regulation (4.43.1) which came into effect on January 1, 2018.

The event began with a presentation about year one of the new regulation, including a summary of the compliance orders and some of the implementation issues encountered.

The meeting then progressed to an expert panel Q&A session.

Panel members included:

  • WorkSafeBC Officer – Andy Lim – Andy worked on the team that helped develop the regulation and actively manages WorkSafeBC Field Officers in enforcement of the regulation.
  • Professional Engineer – Alex Lornie, P.Eng – A Professional Engineer since 2005, Alex has extensive experience and understanding of the material handling industry. Lornie Engineering provides engineering and reviews of pallet racking and material handling installations throughout Western Canada.
  • Racking Industry Representative – Dan Beer – Dan is the Past President of the CMHDS and has been actively involved in the Material Handling Industry for over 30 years. Dan has worked with numerous companies helping them comply with the new regulation.
